Hannover Re and Performance Excellence

Our Performance Excellence (PE) Management System is a future-oriented, holistic management system for the entire Hannover Re Group. Using the PE Framework, we aim to sustainably increase our company value. The framework is based on the “Excellence Model“ by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), which in turn rests on the evaluation and further development of methods, practises and procedures used and completed by way of external assessment. Among others, this comprehensive approach includes such concepts as the Balanced Scorecard, Customer Relationship Management, Leadership Feedback, and Agreement on Objectives.

To us, Performance Excellence serves as a guideline and is a particularly effective means of steadily increasing our customer orientation. By way of this holistic management system, we strive to continuously improve our control tools for management, business policy, employee quality as well as resource and process management. In so doing, we achieve optimum effects with regard to customer and employee satisfaction as well as business results. In this context, social factors and employee-specific results also play an important part.

We put Performance Excellence to use as follows:                                          

  • as a structure for our management system,
  • as a guideline for implementing our strategy,
  • as a self assessment method (PE Check) that shows how far the different  departments have progressed on their way to excellence, which points out potential for improvement and encourages problem solving,
  • as a framework for classifying measures and projects, in order to avoid duplication and for identifying important issues which have not yet been dealt with
  • as a basis for a corporate language and common way of thinking which is shared in all units of our company.
