Promoting Hannover as an art location

Hannover Re established a foundation for the benefit of the Sprengel Museum Hannover. With its extensive collection of art and its multifaceted temporary exhibitions programme, the Sprengel Museum – which opened in 1979 - is among the most renowned museums for 20th-century art. The Hannover Re foundation was launched in 1991 on occasion of Hannover Re’s 25th anniversary. Its mission is to promote Hannover as an art location through the acquisition of paintings and sculptures which are handed over to the museum on permanent loan. In addition to this, the foundation funds accompanying publications and events.

Following are exemplary works which were purchased by the foundation and handed over to the Sprengel Museum Hannover on permanent loan:

  • "Ohne Titel", Sigmar Polke
  • "Bilddreiundzwanzig", Georg Baselitz
  • "The Sculptor", Roland B. Kitaj
  • "Ohne Titel", Wandskulptur, Donald Judd
  • "Abstraktes Bild", Gerhard Richter

Hannover Re also supports the Kestnergesellschaft in Hannover through its participation in the latter's partner programme: in our role as a "kestnerpartner" we are able to promote the society's work on a continuous and lasting basis.

Promoting music students’ performances

In cooperation with Hannover University of Music and Drama, our subsidiary E+S Rück who is responsible for the German market, organises so-called "examination concerts". Ever since holding the concert for the first time in 1998, E+S Rück has enabled three or four "master" music students per year to embark on their career as soloists, while at the same time offering its clients a musical highlight as part of the "Hannover Forum" event. Were it not for the involvement of E+S Rück, these advanced students would face a long wait until their final examination, since opportunities for them to play with a large orchestra are few and far between.
