Job Profile: Hannover Life Re
"After my school-leaving examination I came to Hannover to study mathematics with concentrations in stochastics and actuarial science. In fact, I had anticipated an academic career. I was working as a scientific assistant at the university when I got to know Hannover Re through its connection with our department. After a number of very interesting spare-time jobs at the company, I decided to accept an offer to join Hannover Re as a mathematician.
When I joined the company it was just in the process of expanding the life sector. I was able to get involved from the very outset, including the areas of valuation and accounting. I was subsequently able to superbly apply the knowledge I had acquired "on the job" when the need arose to set up a subsidiary in the United Kingdom.
My job today consists of evaluating reinsurance treaties and negotiating with clients over contracts and conditions - work which involves almost monthly travel to our international business partners. I am also responsible for coordinating work between Hannover and our offices in Asia and I support our subsidiaries in their business activities.
In addition to good analytical faculties and some knowledge of English, the work requires an ability to respond flexibly to fresh challenges, the needs of business partners from other cultures and new specialist fields.
