What location are the job postings for ? Unless mentioned otherwise, open positions are in respect of our Hannover, Germany location. While Hannover Re has offices all over the world, we transact the majority of our business from our home office in Hannover, Germany.
Do you provide professional development opportunities ? Yes, further training and competent professional development are key priorities for us. Whether it’s language courses, IT training events or industry knowledge. You will take part in in–house and external trainings. We make use of human resource development tools to identify and specifically develop your personal potential. This includes a variety of professional and personal qualification measures.
What will my initial training look like ? In order to get off to a good start at Hannover Re, as a first step you will undergo an introductory training held over several days which will provide you with important information on our areas of activity, the company itself and organisational matters. Your colleagues will show you typical workflows and will help you get familiar with your personal workplace before you take on your first projects together.
What will my workplace look like ? Our departments are divided into teams. Improving professional communication among colleagues is important to us. As a general rule, you will therefore share an office with one or two colleagues.
Do you have set starting dates ? No, normally you will start as soon as possible and in accordance with the notice period required by your former employer. In any case, we recommend you apply in good time. Only in the case of job opportunities for trainees, interns, diploma students or temporary staff a start date may be mentioned in the corresponding job ad, since such activities are partly project-specific.
Will I be able to join even if I have not got a university degree ? Applicants who are trained insurance professionals or who have several years of sound experience in the industry have the same employment opportunities as university graduates - it’s your professional profile that counts. Furthermore, the desired qualifications vary according to the requirements profile for a specific position.
What course of study are you looking for ? In order to ensure a correct assessment of primary insurers and markets, we employ economists, management experts, political economists, mathematicians, engineers, lawyers and even medical practitioners. For more information on which degree requirements you are expected to meet, please refer to our job profiles, the descriptions of our corporate divisions and the individual jobs posted on our job board.
What can I expect in the way of remuneration ? Your salary will be based primarily on your personal qualifications and industry experience. It will be individually negotiated. Our company’s salary structure reflects the individual market value of each member of staff.
Are there general requirements which I am expected to meet ? Yes, indeed. You must have a good command of English, need to be able to work in a team environment and are client oriented and quality minded. We are looking for people who have an entrepreneurial spirit, are willing to share their knowledge with colleagues and are interested in a long-term cooperation with our company.
Which criteria are decisive in the applicant selection process ? What we are particularly looking for in potential new employees is the industry or expert knowledge that they bring to our company and the ways in which we can apply and enhance this knowledge. We also value initial experience in the insurance business, stays abroad as well as social commitment. Due to the international orientation of our Group, good English language skills are required. Your social skills and readiness to perform are also important to us. You are looking forward to making a highly motivated start as you familiarise yourself with the practice of reinsurance. Above this, you will be able to prove that you can work independently but also as part of a team, are client oriented and quality minded and have the desire to assume responsibility quickly.

Will applicants be given a preference who have previously done an internship at your company or written their diploma thesis at Hannover Re ? Making a generalising statement like this does not quite get it right. What is crucial to being a successful candidate is profound professional competence as well as your personality – characterised by an entrepreneurial spirit and people skills.
Clearly, though, an internship or diploma thesis offers you the opportunity to establish personal contacts with employees at the Hannover Re and look behind the scenes. During such a phase people will come to value you and your skills and will recommend you to other people. Since Hannover Re only has a limited number of internships and places available to diploma students, we cannot offer every applicant the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the reinsurance business already during their studies.
