Hannover Re - a Fair Company
Hannover Re supports the “Fair Company“ Initiative of karriere, a magazine for graduates published by the Handelsblatt Publishing Group. Already 650 participating companies were registered at the turn of the year. There are five rules that provide the structure for dealing fairly with interns within these Fair Companies:
Fair Companies...
- do not fill full-time positions with interns, volunteers, trainees or persons of similar status,
- do not put off a university graduate with an internship if he or she applied for a full-time position,
- do not bait interns with a vague prospect of a full-time position down the road,
- offer practical training during applicants’ training periods primarily for the purpose of job orientation,
- pay interns adequate compensation.
karriere Magazine for the first time publicised the initiative editorially in its 10/04 issue of 24 September 2004. Ever since, the number of participating companies has increased steadily. Over and over again karriere Magazine refers readers to its current list of “Fair Companies“ which is available online; at the same time it encourages readers to report on their experiences in the listed companies, thus ensuring continuous monitoring of whether rules are observed. If a company breaks the rules only once and if there is proof of this, the respective “Fair Company“ will be contacted and, should this happen again, such company will even be excluded from the circle of “Fair Companies”.
