Business trips
Business trips are the primary cause of Hannover Re's carbon dioxide emissions, accounting for around 59% – or more than 4,700 tonnes – in 2011; 99% thereof is attributable to air travel. And it is this portion that the company is seeking to significantly reduce. With this in mind, the Executive Board has approved a concept that is currently in the process of implementation. The intention is to substantially cut the number of business trips and instead to use video conferences also as a means of international communication. The corresponding infrastructure was launched at the beginning of 2011.
