Code of Conduct

Hannover Re is a company with clear ethical convictions. This is reflected inter alia in a set of internal rules that are binding upon all staff worldwide. The Code of Conduct, which is available in English and German, helps employees to successfully master the often complex ethical and legal challenges which they face as part of their day-to-day work. All members of staff undertake to conduct themselves towards colleagues, clients and business partners in a manner that is honest, fair and law-abiding. These guidelines are regularly adjusted in line with changing sociopolitical requirements.

The company's Compliance unit monitors adherence to the Code of Conduct. Each year different areas of the Hannover Re Group are audited in detail. In addition to these checks, regular training sessions and special informational materials are provided for managers and staff on topics such as embargo or sanction regulations, anti-trust law or insider trading rules.

In 2010 – in cooperation with Talanx – an online-supported compliance tool was implemented for training and informational purposes. The primary topics are:

  • Securities Trading Act (Wertpapierhandelsgesetz)
  • Anti-trust law (Kartellrecht)
  • Compliance in general
  • Money-laundering
  • Data protection
  • Fraud and corruption
  • General Act on Equal Treatment (Allgemeines Gleichstellungsgesetz)

The new online tool will initially be published in German, but an English version will follow.
