Sustainability Rating

Every year the rating agency oekom research AG analyses several thousand companies with an eye to sustainability and publishes corresponding industry reports as well as studies of individual enterprises. The oekom rating provides investors with important pointers as to which corporate groups could be an interesting investment from the standpoint of sustainability considerations. For each industry oekom has defined criteria for inclusion in the so-called Prime Standard: insurers must currently attain a rating of at least C on a scale of A+ (top mark) to F (unrated) in order to be included in the Prime Standard.

Following a D grade in 2009 Hannover Re improved by two notches in 2010 to reach C-. Of 38 insurers analysed by oekom (13 could not be rated due to a lack of information), Hannover Re ranked nineteenth overall this year. The rating is divided into two areas: the Social Rating and the Environmental Rating, each of which carries a 50 percent weighting. With its Social Rating of C+ Hannover Re ranks seventh, while its Environmental Rating places it 25th. Hannover Re will continue to work on its ranking with the goal of moving up to Prime Standard in the medium term.
