Support for Hannover as a centre for fine art
Hannover Re maintains a foundation that benefits the Sprengel Museum Hannover. Opened in 1979, the Sprengel Museum Hannover ranks among the foremost museums of twentieth-century art thanks to its extensive collection and diverse range of temporary exhibitions. The Hannover Re Foundation was launched in 1991 to mark Hannover Re's twenty-fifth anniversary. The Foundation's mission is to promote Hannover as a centre for the fine arts through the acquisition of contemporary pieces, which are then made available to the Sprengel Museum on permanent loan. The Foundation is further tasked with financing publications and events to accompany the exhibitions.
Works of art purchased by the Foundation and handed over to the Sprengel Museum Hannover as permanent loans include pieces by, among others, Sigmar Polke, Georg Baselitz, Roland B. Kitaj, Donald Judd and Gerhard Richter
Hannover Re also supports the Kestnergesellschaft in Hannover through its participation in the latter's partner programme: in its role as a "kestnerpartner" the company is able to promote the society's work on a continuous and lasting basis.
Advancement of young musicians
E+S Rück, the subsidiary of Hannover Re responsible for the German market, organises so-called examination concerts in cooperation with Hannover University of Music and Drama. Since the first concert was held back in 1998, E+S Rück has assisted three or four of the university's "master students" each year as they seek to embark on their career as soloists; at the same time, the company is able to offer its clients a musical highlight as part of its "Hannover Forum" event. Were it not for the involvement of E+S Rück, the graduating students would have to suffer long wait times until their final examination, since opportunities for them to play with the accompaniment of a large orchestra are few and far between.
