Hannover Re ready for Y2KHannover, 13 October 1999: Hannover Re last week completed comprehensive production tests as a final step in ensuring the Y2K compliance of all its computer systems and technical equipment. All systems proved that they are Y2K compliant during this simulated "time travel" into the Year 2000. As early as 1997 Hannover Re initiated a project designed to safeguard its Y2K readiness. All hardware and software systems developed both externally and in-house and irrespective of manufacturer warranties of Y2K compliance underwent extensive testing, initially in a separate Year 2000 test environment. In cases where weaknesses were identified, the systems were either replaced or the necessary modifications implemented. The simulation of the change of date which has now been performed for all systems in conjunction with a review of the contingency plans under Year 2000 production conditions enabled Hannover Re to prove its Y2K compliance. Following the conclusion of this week of testing, the computer systems have now been "frozen". This will ensure that the currently attained security level is maintained into the new millennium. |
