Markets
Markets and clients
Hannover Re is active in all markets that have a reliable legal system and freely transferable currency. The following markets are prioritised based on their above-average profit potential:
- United States, Germany
- structured reinsurance
- natural catastrophe business worldwide
- marine/energy, aviation, credit/surety
- facultative business worldwide
Clients promising a substantial profit potential enjoy priority access to resources and capacities. Extended profitability criteria are applied to clients that have demonstrated their continuity and loyalty.
Distribution channels
- Non-proportional business is written through brokers in most markets.
- For facultative underwriting a local presence is normally necessary; local representative offices and branches are also established purely for reasons of expediency and on cost grounds.
- Treaty business is written centrally on principle (concentration of know-how and ensuring compliance with underwriting standards).
Service
Additional services for third parties, i.e. clients or brokers, are offered only if they demonstrably generate added value (e.g. in Germany and the emerging markets). Fixed cost structures are avoided.
