Hannover Re has varied entry opportunities for you as a law graduate. You can join our legal department or encounter exciting tasks with room for your own ideas as an underwriter or claims specialist in Finance & Accounting.

You have the following qualifications:

  • Degree in law, including legal clerkship or equivalent foreign degree e.g. LL.M., additional qualification in economics welcome
  • Interest in highly complex legal-economic issues
  • Experience in other legal systems advantageous, especially in English and/or US law
  • Ideally initial experience in insurance or financial services
  • Enjoy customer contact and contact to colleagues of various nationalities
  • Excellent command of English, ideally acquired or intensified abroad, preferably further foreign languages
  • Creativity, persuasiveness and advisory skills

Corporate Matters

This unit of the department Group Legal Services deals with overall legal questions arising at Hannover Re.

  • Processing of all company legal questions
  • Looking after supervisory legal issues
  • Processing of all processes concerning bank and capital market law
  • Civil, criminal and administrative issues and checking of contracts
  • Development of guidelines regarding legally relevant questions
  • Looking after legal disputes with economic aspects in mind
  • Information for the operative departments on relevant legal developments

Claims and Reinsurance

This unit of the department Group Legal Services is in charge of all legal questions arising from the operative business.

  • Checking of reinsurance contracts and agent contracts
  • Development of model contracts
  • Processing of complex losses
  • Development of worldwide claims processing guidelines for the company
  • Carrying out audits to comply with claims processing guidelines
  • Looking after legal disputes with economic aspects in mind
  • Information for the operative departments on relevant legal developments
  • Carrying out seminars and meetings for Hannover Re Group’s customers

Compliance

This unit of the department Group Legal Services deals with all compliance-relevant legal issues

  • Monitoring of external requirements on the Hannover Re Group
  • Development of compliance-relevant guidelines
  • Advising the market departments on embargo and sanction issues

Group Legal Services

Our approximately 30 legal experts deal with legal issues of Hannover Re, which, for example, can directly occur in connection with reinsurance contracts. Furthermore we ensure that Hannover Re acts in a legally permissible and ethically desired framework.

Claims Department in Finance & Accounting

A Claims Counsel in our Finance & Accounting department is responsible for the legal evaluation and processing of individual claims

  • Carrying out settlement negotiations and legal preparation of settlement and redemption negotiations
  • Answering cedants’, brokers’ or retrocessionaires’ questions regarding individual claims investigations
  • Legal advice for colleagues form market departments or accounting concerning individual loss
  • Carrying out training and holding talks

Underwriting

Underwriting describes the insuring of risks by a primary or reinsurer. An underwriter carries out the following tasks:

  • Analysis and completion of reinsurance contracts relating to certain countries or branches
  • Checking offers and calculating adequate prices
  • Contract negotiations with cedants and/or agents
  • Market analyses and statistical evaluations
  • Corporate customer care also including worldwide travel
