From harvests to forests to animals – there are hardly any fields of agriculture which we do not reinsure in the Agricultural Risks department. Our main task is to insure our primary insurance customers against the consequences of varied agricultural risks – worldwide. We work with both classic forms of protection cover and index-based insurance solutions.

The competence team for index-based and parametric insurance solutions, which is based in the agricultural risk department, is now also dedicated to other risk areas and works with underwriters from other departments to develop parametric coverage solutions for non-life insurance and reinsurance.

Furthermore, we advise governments or international organisations on the development of insurance solutions and claims management. Hannover Re is one of the worldwide leading service providers in this field.

What do we do exactly?

We combine analytical and specialised activities with highly customer oriented and communicative aspects in our work. The main focus is on the analysis of reinsurance offers, including price calculation and negotiations with our customers – ideally leading to the signing of the contract. Every underwriter looks after defined markets and/or regions. This work necessitates thorough knowledge of the appropriate markets and fields of insurance to recognise chances and risks in time. Our knowledge allows us to professionally advise our primary insurance customers, as well as the state and international organisation customers and to support them with product development. We maintain relations with our business partners and create new contacts by visiting our customers and attending congresses.

What skills do we have?

Employees in our department usually have the following qualifications:

  • A degree in development economics, agricultural science or veterinary medicine together with business knowledge
  • In the case of index-based insurance, data analytics and programming skills as well as a general IT affinity are necessary
  • High level of willingness to work in a team and cooperate on a company-wide level
  • Enjoyment of working on varied and ever changing tasks
