Gradu­ate Trainee Pro­gramme Rein­su­rance

During the 18 months Graduate Trainee Programme Reinsurance you go through various training blocks in the departments of Hannover Re and learn the reinsurance business from scratch. Each stay in a department lasts between 2 and 4 months. In your first block you will usually only deal with internal customers. That gives you the opportunity to get a good company overview. We will then plan your future training visits together. They generally focus on underwriting. A stay in Finance & Accounting is compulsory. You will also be given the opportunity to do a block in one of our international locations (up to 3 months).

Criteria:

  • Very good degree in economics, law or cultural studies
  • Initial work experience in financial services (vocational training or internship)
  • Working experience abroad, e.g. as an intern or apprenticeship
  • Business fluent in German and English
  • Good command of another language
  • Interest in working with international customers
  • Willingness to work in an international team and to travel

Mathe­matics Gradu­ate Trainee Pro­gramme
Life & Health Rein­surance

Our Mathematics Graduate Trainee Programme Life & Health Reinsurance allows you to join our team dealing with worldwide Life & Health Rein­surance. As a “Life & Health” graduate trainee you go through training visits in our market and service departments, where you get to know the full range of our life and health business. This gives you the chance to see where your aptitude lies and if you prefer to work, for example, with internal or external customers. While doing this, you very quickly establish a company-wide network. The business field of life and health reinsurance is growing disproportionately, giving you ever greater chances of proving your talent.

Depending on what job you are aiming for and what jobs are available in our company, this graduate trainee programme lasts 18 months. Each training block takes from 2 to 4 months. One part of the graduate trainee programme takes you to one of our international locations.

Mathe­matics Gradu­ate Trainee Pro­gramme
Pro­perty & Ca­su­al­ty Re­in­surance

Our Mathematics Graduate Trainee Programme Property & Casualty Reinsurance allows you to start as a graduate trainee in the fields which deal with risk management, price calculation of our insurance products or the development of innovative reinsurance solutions.

As a ‘Property & Casualty’ graduate trainee you go through training visits in the departments Group Risk Mana­gement, Quota­tions and Advanced Solutions. This gives you the chance to see where your aptitude lies and if you prefer to work, for example, with internal or external customers. While doing this, you very quickly establish a company-wide network.

Depending on what job you are aiming for and what vacancies the company has, this graduate trainee programme lasts 18 months. Each training block lasts between 2 and 4 months, and one of them takes place in one of our international offices.

Criteria:

  • Very good degree in (business-) mathematics
  • Study majors in, for example, stochastics, financial and/or insurance mathematics
  • Initial practical experience in financial services advantageous
  • Ideally experience abroad
  • Business fluent in German and English
  • Preferably good command of another language

Trainee Programme Infor­mation
Tech­nolo­gy Digi­talisation

During the 18-month trai­nee pro­gramme you will experience first-hand a range of IT departments at Hannover Re and also learn about the business of reinsurance. Each period of training lasts between two and four months.

Your first stop will be in our Digital Incubator team, which supports and drives the evaluation and implementation of digital innovations in the various specialist reinsurance departments. We will draw up the planning for your other training visits jointly with you. A period of training on the underwriting side, our core business, is obligatory – as is a stay of up to three months at one of our international locations.

Criteria:

  • Master's degree, preferably in (business) IT or mathematics with a minor in computer science, or an equivalent academic background
  • Ideally, initial experience in the field of business technology inno­va­tion, innovation management and/or data science
  • International experience gained through internships, study or employment
  • Proficient user skills in German and English (at least level C2)
  • Interest in innovative developments and, on a general level, in technological and economic correlations
  • Willingness to work as part of a team with colleagues of many different nationalities

Graduate trainees receive a permanent contract because we select them carefully and invest a lot in their training. What this means for you is the best possible prospects!

Organisation of the graduate trainee programmes

The knowledge that you gain during the 3 to 4 months training blocks will be supported by selected training activities, workshops and projects conducted at your own responsibility. You will receive coaching from experienced colleagues and get to know various units, including spending up to 3 months abroad at one of our international locations. In the second part of the altogether 18 month programme we will work with you to jointly develop your individual perspectives for your career at Hannover Re.

Application process

You choose an entry date for the graduate trainee programme that suits you best. Please submit your application approx. 4 to 6 months in advance. If you meet the requirements, we will invite you to a multi-level selection process that includes assessment centre components. You will have the opportunity to get to know the staff in Human Resources and the various departments and of course Hannover Re as a company itself.
