During your internship, you will have the opportunity to actively support our specialist departments, including IT, Financial Management, Group Risk Management and Underwriting in Life & Health and Non-Life Reinsurance. Don't worry if you're not familiar with the reinsurance business. We'll give you everything you need to get started.
We believe in the fair treatment of interns. Our internships are structured to provide professional guidance, with clearly defined tasks and objectives for a reasonable timeframe. In addition, you will have a dedicated contact person throughout your internship. We generally pay interns around €1,000 per month. Internships lasting three months or more will be paid the minimum wage, including mandatory internships. Before you start your internship, we'll make sure you're clear about your role, who you'll be working with and what your objectives will be. This is a great experience, and we can't wait for you to join our team. By the way, as an international organisation, our language of communication is English.
In our experience, internships only make sense if they are mutually beneficial. You should therefore be in at least your third semester of your bachelor's or master's degree at the time of your internship. As we work extensively with numbers in the insurance industry, our internships are particularly suitable for students in economics or STEM degree programmes. Preference is given to candidates who have studied specialised subjects such as controlling, accounting, insurance management, actuarial mathematics, statistics or stochastics. And as already mentioned, it is not a problem if you are not familiar with the reinsurance business. We will help you to understand our business better through several basic courses.
We believe in treating interns fairly, which is why we take our time with the application and selection process. You can apply via our job portal. Our team of Recruiting Advisors will check that your application is complete and that you are a good fit for us. If both are the case, we will forward your application to the relevant division head and HR. You will then be invited for a personal interview. If we find that we share a common vision for working together, we go from there.
"I started as an intern at Hannover Re in 2021 and was right in the thick of things: lots of new input and exciting tasks. After four months I decided to stay on as a working student. While studying for my master's degree, I gained practical experience, grew into the tasks and was able to take on more and more responsibility. I successfully completed my master's degree in 2022, then started working full-time and am still with Hannover Re today."
